Featured Artisan: Robert H. Jones

Robert was drawn into his work with clay twenty-nine years ago and has been actively pursuing the ceramics spectrum ever since. Ceramics is a complex craft, requiring controlled physical and mental discipline, the magic of the fire, and dabbling in the crucible of nature. After many years creating functional and traditional ceramics, Robert’s interests have shifted toward three unpredictable  and spontaneous ceramic techniques, “raku,” “saggar,” and “horse hair.” These three methods have presented the artist with many exciting and demanding new challenges. Robert is a native of Southern California, graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, annual exhibitor, since 1991, at the Sawdust Art Festival. Southern California Fine Artist and Henna Artist, Lernie Beuler, has been professionally creating her art since 1998. Her artistic interests vary from acrylic painting with landscape or figurative abstract themes, as well as photography. Her primary focus is on her Henna, or Mehndi, Art, and her Ceramics. Much of Lernie’s henna designs are used in creating her ceramic vessels. She has exhibited her work in group shows in the Southern California area, including the Orange County Fair. Lernie has been booked throughout California for her Henna services, including bridal parties, private events, school functions (high schools, UCI, Cal State Long Beach, etc), and celebrity parties (cast picnic for SCRUBS, Selena Gomez’ 21st bday, and MTV’s NEXT!, to name a few). She has a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of California, Irvine. However,…

Carmen Tunis, owner and creator of Soap Tart soaps, has always believed that healthy skin is happy skin. So, one day after a suggestion from her daughter, she decided to make a bar of soap. Lesley Goren is an artist and illustrator living in magical Topanga Canyon. She is interested in “place”, be it the woods, the city, or somewhere in between. Her paintings and drawings are an exploration of what makes a certain area unique. Especially of interest are places in and around Los Angeles County- the extremely diverse neighborhoods located within LA, the architecture, the landscapes, and the wildness which dots and surrounds the city. Art By Yuli is a mother and daughter collaboration with a single mission: creating one-of-a-kind shawls and scarves utilizing the softest and most beautiful Argentine Yarn. Their shawls and scarves add warmth and style to any outfit. Each piece in their collection is an original creation, done entirely by hand, using one or two needles, a small or large loom and a triangular weaving frame. We use natural materials, including silk, and fine cottons mixed with textured acrylic and fuzzy yarn. Throughout the year they add new pieces to their collection, which includes a variety of shawls, wraps, shrugs, scarves, hats, and other innovative pieces like bags and purses. They sell toys & healthy treats your kitty will love. In 2013 owner Michelle Loo adopted her first cat, Ziggy. She was always shopping for toys and healthy treats for him, that he would like and that she felt safe giving him. A short year later, she adopted Marley. Julia Burnside of KnotSewKnitting has been an award winning professional seamstress for over 20 years.  Julia creates unique handmade bowties, as well as sewn, knitted, and crocheted accessories. Her work has received awards through numerous dance competitions as well as at the Orange County Fair. Her family business located in Newport Beach, California prides itself on its dedication to professional craftsmanship and attention to details.  In her spare time, she enjoys knitting chemo caps and preemie blankets for local charities. Artisan Sneak Peak: Artistique Studios

Artistique Studios is delighted to present an array of artistic gifts that give back to our community. Award-winning teen artist Katie Gerlt, who has won many prizes at the ENC’s own children’s art contests over the years, has created beautiful fine art of animals, flowers and portraits of people. Her new line of notecards featuring her paintings of sea life debuts this Fall of 2015, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach, which has performed more rescues than ever this year.
