Join Our Education Team as a Naturalist / Camp Teacher
Do you love being outdoors, working with children, and creating memorable summer experiences in nature? The Environmental Nature Center (ENC) is currently hiring Naturalist / Camp Teachers to lead our popular Nature Camps and help inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
Nature Camps are a cornerstone of ENC’s education programs. As a Naturalist / Camp Teacher, you’ll design and lead hands-on, theme-based outdoor camps where children explore habitats, observe wildlife, conduct simple science investigations, play games, and build meaningful connections to the natural world. Camp teachers help create a safe, engaging, and joyful environment where curiosity and discovery guide each day.
In addition to teaching camps, Naturalists may also lead school field trips aligned with California State Standards, as well as occasional Scout programs, birthday parties, and other community programs depending on scheduling needs.
Naturalist / Camp Teachers also help develop camp curriculum and activities, bringing creativity and enthusiasm to each session. No two days are exactly the same—and that’s part of the fun.
We’re excited to welcome educators who are enthusiastic, flexible, and passionate about working with children outdoors, and who enjoy creating meaningful learning experiences in nature.
A Few Things to Know About This Role
Teaching at the ENC is active, energetic work. Our Naturalist / Camp Teachers spend much of their day outdoors with groups of children, leading hikes, facilitating games and hands-on activities, and adapting lessons to meet the moment—whether that means following a child’s curiosity about a lizard on the trail or adjusting plans for a hot summer day.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, feels comfortable leading groups in an outdoor setting, and brings creativity, patience, and a sense of humor to each day.
Experience working with children in outdoor education, camps, environmental education, or similar programs is strongly preferred.
