by Angelica Camacho, ENC Communications Intern
When you can go on a quick hike on your break, or take a seat in the Redwood Forest, there cannot be a better place to intern than the Environmental Nature Center. My name is Angelica Camacho and I am thrilled to begin my experience interning for the center here in the beautiful city of Newport Beach. I am a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, where I majored in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations so when I saw an opening for a communications position for a non-profit organization I had to apply right away. I am a writer at heart so to be able to write for the ENC and build my experience is a dream come true.
Of course, writing is not the only reason I am here! Not to sound cliché, but I love all things forest and conservation. I found the Environmental Nature Center through a website called VolunteerMatch.org and I fell in love with its story. To create a “living laboratory” in the middle of a suburb is not the most conventional idea, but it is the most fascinating. Not to mention the fact that there is a beautifully diverse trail within the center and if I am not working or writing, I am definitely hiking! I am very fortunate to experience the center as an intern and I am excited to visit the center as a nature enthusiast.
All in all, I know I will gain a lot out of this internship. To start with, I hope to continue to strengthen my writing skills through blogging and writing press releases. I also look forward to using social media as a public relations technique as it is something I have less experience with. Additionally, it was my goal out of college to work in the non-profit field so I am grateful to be able to experience that as it is both challenging and rewarding. I look to immerse myself in the work I will be doing and to experience the beauty and nature here at the Environmental Nature Center.
