Winter showers will bring May flowers….and butterflies!

by Brittney Gonzalez, ENC Communications Intern

Super blooms have been happening, as well as the emergence of butterflies. Painted Lady Butterflies for example, were causing quite a spectacle, as they flew north through Southern California from Southern Deserts. While we’re on the topic of butterflies, Orange County’s only Butterfly House will re-open at the Spring Faire on May 19. Guests will have the opportunity to watch native butterflies interacting with native host plants. What could be more calming than watching these beautiful insects flit and float around? While you’re here, you can sit at the Butterfly HabitatObservation Deck, inside our meadow, and just watch a diversity of insects and birds enjoying the habitat. Stroll by our desert plants, and see some of our cacti in bloom.

The Spring Faire will be bursting with energy from live performers, animal ambassadors, and artistic volunteers, waiting to paint on children’s faces. Some feathery friends will joins us from the OC Bird of Prey Center. If you happen to have a green thumb, there will be native plants for sale, some of which attract butterflies, and others that would be great additions to your yard. If you happen to be a foodie like me, there will be lots of options, and everything you need. Coffee, sweets, bagels, and more at our Savor OC Restaurant & Caterer Showcase! Bring your own reusable plates and utensils and earn yourself a discount on food for being environmentally friendly. We can’t wait for our community to delve into these great local restaurants!

Once you’ve indulged, digest while viewing our Youth Art Showcase, where works of art from children ages 4-18 will be displayed. This year’s theme is Diversity and we can’t wait to see what the kids come up with!
