This Summer the ENC staff have had the pleasure of working with intern Marc Vukcevich. Marc, who’s been coming here since he was two, loves to direct his time and energy into making the ENC a more enjoyable place for everyone. He started volunteering for the ENC in June, and he will be entering Mater Dei High School this Fall as a freshman.
Marc loves the outdoors and to him “there’s no better place than the ENC”. As a general intern, Marc helps whenever and wherever he can. Some days Marc will work as a Butterfly House Docent, or a Museum Docent. He even helps out with our Summer Nature Camps. Marc also works with the ENC’s live educational animals, so he may clean cages, provide enrichment for them, or even help show them to campers.
Marc is a fabulous photographer, and he’s recently been working on a comprehensive ENC Plant Guide to compliment our existing ENC Plant Community Guide. Marc plans to photograph all plant species in the Center, and provide a detailed description of each so that visitors can guide themselves. He’s halfway through the project and estimates a September completion date.
Marc is driven by the positive reactions he receives when working with others. Marc says he “loves to give back and help…” What does he get out of it? According to Marc, “meeting new people and having a good time.”
“Marc came to the Center at the start of Summer as a Butterfly House Docent,” said ENC Director of Education Lori Whalen. “He turned in an application, read the manual, signed the agreement and was scheduled to train alongside an experienced Docent. Marc is very gregarious and once he began volunteering, we all got to know him rather quickly. He immediately began offering to assist at the Center in other ways, and because he is so mature and responsible – and adept at everything he does – we accepted gratefully. Were very proud to have Marc on our team and we are excited to see what happens next!”
Marc is a trained Museum Docent and Butterfly House Docent. There are a number of long and short-term volunteer opportunities at the Center for students and adults.
