The ENC Excellent Educator Series Returns!

The ENC Excellent Educator series brings all kinds of educators together for fun afternoons of learning exciting hands-on ways to teach children about science and nature. Everyone is invited! Classroom teachers, outdoor educators, scout leaders and parents – anyone who wants to be a better educator.

On Wednesday, January 27, ENC Facility Manager Sarah Fitzgerald will share some of her favorite activities during “Lets Talk Toddlers“. We’ll do some art, and learn easy and fun games for 3-5 year olds where toddlers can participate without much help.   We will talk about reading in nature and animal handling for toddlers – all the ingredients (and why they work) for toddler/parent participation classes.

Sarah will tell us how to make our activities as hands-on as possible, how to give clear and quick directions, and even quicker examples. She will discuss parent participation, and how much is appropriate, and talk about using hand signs for almost every noun.

“This is an experiential workshop, so channel your inner toddler and get ready to play the part,” said Fitzgerald. “It IS the best way to learn!”

RSVP at encenter.org $5. Free for members.

Sama gesturingOn January 30th join Sama Wareh for a fun filled and informational workshop, “Teaching about the Drought Through Project WET”. This project WET (Water Education for Teachers) workshop promotes awareness, appreciation, and knowledge of water resources through a fun filled and hands-on program.

WET is for anyone interested in natural resources and environmental education and is especially useful for public and private school teachers in grades K-12. WET is similar to Project WILD and PLT but holds a greater focus on secondary materials, making WET perfect for integrating science and math.

This exciting workshop provides new activities to help excite kids in the worlds of science, math, language arts, social studies, and environmental studies. All who participate will learn the basics of how to use Project WET materials and will receive a free copy of the Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide courtesy of the Metropolitan Water District.

Don’t forget to bring a sack lunch and walking shoes!

RSVP at encenter.org $5 for anyone and free for members.
