By Alexandria Raeann Choy, ENC Communications Intern
As I walked into the Environmental Nature Center this morning, I was not sure exactly what to expect. I had done an ample amount of poking around on the ENC website, but had yet to see all of the extensive grounds and educational programs.
Following a tour of the beautiful (and environmentally-friendly!) buildings and a run-through of my intern duties, I had the opportunity to observe exactly what the ENC does best – educate. I saw hands-on, interactive learning combined with true passion for nature. I shadowed Lori, the ENC’s Education and Community Relations Director, as she led a class of 2nd graders through the grounds. We walked through trails, learned about animals, and even pet a millipede! My favorite part was at Butterfly House, where a blue butterfly gently landed right on a little boy’s face!
In just a short amount of time, I have already witnessed how the ENC works to educate and inspire with a unique approach to teaching. Today has such been a unique experience- much different and more enriching than just viewing some photos online! It is just the beginning, and I am so excited to see where the next few months at the ENC lead. It was truly a first day filled with festivities!
