9:30 am - 11:00 am
Enjoy a classic nature themed book under the canopy of our tallest trees while your family relaxes together on a blanket or towel. Afterward children and their adults will spend some time with Naturalist Harmonie and Luna the owl to learn more about owl adaptations.
Guests will also dissect Owl Pellets and make their own owls to take home using recycled burlap coffee bean bags donated by Kean Coffee!
Parents remain with children at all times. All ages welcome. Bring your own blanket or towel.
9:30 – 10AM – Meet Luna during Check-In 9:30-10
10AM – hike out to the Redwoods where we will read Owl Moon by Jane Yolen.
10:30 – rotations to learn more about owls, make burlap owls, and dissect owl pellets.
BOOK SWAP: We would like to invite you to participate in a new feature of our Reading in the Redwoods family literacy program, a Book Swap! After hearing stories under our Redwood trees, families will have a chance to visit our Book Swap Station as one of the scheduled activities in order to exchange books. Please bring your enjoyable read for any level (baby-adult books, nature-related are encouraged but not required). Swapping items reduces waste in the landfill, eliminates packaging, conserves energy, and much more.
