Is your child ready to unleash her artistic wild side? Our After School Nature Art Club at the ENC is here to help him navigate the intricate details of our environment to bring his creations to life.
Our very own Sama Wareh, author of “How to Draw 60 Native California Plants and Animals: A Field Guide,” will be leading this inspirational session that will teach students how to capture nature with their own creativity and willingness to dive into new artistic methods.
“When you take a few moments to observe something, you become more connected to it,” says Sama. “If you are, for example, observing the way California Poppies look like mini stained glass windows when light hits them a certain way, then the next time you see those poppies, you will have a fond memory of the time you observed it.”
New students will use painting as a way to enhance their observation skills and learn new painting techniques in order to capture these natural images and strengthen their relationship with nature: “When you make a connection with nature, whether it be through art, writing, poetry, photography or any expressive medium, you sew a little heartstring onto whatever you are observing.”
This class commences on March 24th and runs from 3:00pm to 5:00 pm. Students can sign up for the class with all materials provided for $20 or bring their own art supplies for $15. We hope to see you there! Sign up HERE. – Nathan Serafin, ENC Communications Intern
