Part Time Naturalist
Naturalists are responsible for teaching off site and on site environmental and social science education programs to children. The Naturalist’s goals are to encourage students’ awareness and appreciation of the environment, broaden students’ knowledge of science concepts, and foster students’ commitment to the protection of the natural environment. This is a part time position (15 – 20 hours/week, sometimes more, sometimes less), paying $12/hour to start. Download the job description HERE.
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching children, preferably in a hands-on, outdoor setting. A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with major course work in science, education or related field is desired. Knowledge of California plant and animal life highly desirable. Knowledge of California Native Americans, as well as local indigenous people also highly desirable. Ability or willingness to handle a variety of animals including birds of prey, mammals, arthropods and snakes. Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures. Ability to work irregular hours, including occasional weekends and nights.
